Traffic-adaptive network control in Hamburg

In a pilot project, 13 light signal systems around the busy intersection Habichtstraße / Bramfelder Straße in Hamburg were equipped with traffic-adaptive network control BALANCE. The crossroads is passed by approximately 100.000 vehicles each day.

Traffic-adaptive network control allows to adapt signal-switching optimally to constantly changing traffic conditions. In the Hamburg pilot project, average travel speed increased by about 10%. Compared to usual traffic-dependent intersection control, 560.000 liters of gas can be saved per year, whereas carbon dioxide pollution is reduced by 1.300 tons.

Because of the huge success of the project, BALANCE will be implemented at various other important junctions in Hamburg.
